10:15am • Sunday morning worship
Our primary worship service begins around 10:15am each Sunday and usually runs less than two hours. As with all our meetings at Downtown Baptist Church, this time can be best described as:
- Casual, but reverent.
- Friendly, but God-glorifying.
- Theological, but gospel-focused and practical.
Our music can best be described as:
- Reverent, holy, worshipful, God-glorifying.
- Traditional Baptist and Presbyterian hymns.
- Theologically rich and accurate worship songs.
- The human voice is our loudest instrument.
- Worship is directed towards God, not ourselves.
Our primary focus is on:
- Public Scripture reading.
- Corporate prayer.
- Gospel proclamation.
- Expositional preaching.
- Verse-by-verse through complete NT Books.
Join us this Sunday morning!
For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods. – Psalm 96:4
9:00am • Sunday morning discipleship
Our primary goal in discipleship is to make disciples that make disciples. During our first session each Sunday morning we generally focus on very practical applications of theology with an eye toward real-world evangelism.
Our goal is NOT to simply know Biblical and Gospel truths, but to be able to articulate them in a natural way in any setting.
Areas of focus would include:
- Fundamentals of the Christian faith.
- Gospel and evangelism training.
- Basic Biblical doctrines.
- Christian apologetics.
These sessions usually involve Scripture memorization, teaching, and discussion of real-world, practical application.
Join us as we strive to make disciples of Christ!
Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. – 2 Peter 3:18
5:00pm • Sunday evening prayer
Our serious devotion to corporate prayer demonstrates our total, joyful dependence on God and our faith in both His goodness (willingness) and greatness (absolute power and sovereignty) in hearing and answering the prayers of His people. We acknowledge that only through Christ can we approach God's throne of grace.
Our Sunday evening prayer time is focused primarily on:
- Salvation of lost friends, family, and coworkers.
- Health and healing.
- Comfort of grieving families.
- Recent church visitors and ministry contacts.
- Missions and sister churches.
- Other special needs.
Join us as we pray that many might be saved!
Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. – Romans 10:1
6:00pm • Sunday evening worship
At Downtown Baptist we take the command of Jesus to make disciples very seriously. Our Sunday morning discipleship classes are focused on teaching systematic theology in a simple, defensible way. Our two other Sunday sessions have more of a Biblical theology approach. Sunday morning sermons are typically New Testament expositional preaching as we make our way, verse-by-verse, through whole books of the NT. Likewise, Sunday evening sermons are typically Old Testament expositional preaching focused on:
- Redemptive-historical revelation.
- Christ in the Old Testament and typology.
- Unity and beauty of Scripture.
Join us as we seek Christ in the Old Testament!
And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself. – Luke 24:27
6:00pm • Wednesday evening discipleship
Our Wednesday night service is usually focused on the Christian devotional life, spiritual disciplines, and prayer. This session may often include a time of fellowship as well. The teaching portion will emphasize a proper understanding and practice of the following spiritual disciplines:
- How to hear God's Word.
- How to meditate on God's Word.
- How to study God's Word.
- How to speak God's Word.
- How to pray.
- How to worship.
- How to be a good steward.
- How and why to fast.
- How and why to journal.
Join us as we strive to observe all Christ has commanded!
Rather discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness - 1 Timothy 4:7
7:30pm • Wednesday evening prayer
Jesus commanded and taught us to pray. The early church devoted themselves to prayer. We believe in an all-powerful God who hears and answers prayer. We hope to be known as a praying church as we too devote ourselves to a life of private and corporate prayer.
Our Wednesday night prayer services is usually devoted to praying for:
- Our church leaders.
- Our church families.
- Our church visitors.
- Other special needs.
Join us as we focus prayer on the church… the bride of Christ!
All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer – Acts 1:14
Help us proclaim the glory of Christ!
Christ's commands to make disciples, love one another, worship together, learn and observe His commandments are both our mission -and- our greatest joy.
